As many have already heard, Florida now requires schools to teach children that enslaved people “developed skills” that “could be applied for their personal benefit.”

This is nothing less than shameful.

But here’s the thing: it’s not new. I was raised in Texas, and I distinctly remember being taught similar things by my middle school history teacher. There was a multiple choice test that required us to answer that some slaves liked being slaves! I think he was getting his history from Gone With the Wind.

It’s like today’s Florida is a 1980’s Texas.
