Running Bull is scheduled for release in October 2021. Sample pages can be found here.
Fifteen-year-old Russell Cook has spent his entire life following the rules. “Yes, Sir!” is the only acceptable response he has to give in 1960’s Piadosa, Texas, a small town southwest of San Antonio. But surely he was meant for more than this life.
Russell’s old man, Bill, doesn’t deserve the honor of being called “father”, and not just because he treats Russell worse than he treated his Army recruits. The old man probably thinks Russell has forgotten what happened a few years back.
Elaine, at seven, doesn’t understand why her big brother and her daddy fight so much. She loves them both and dreams of one day being as bold and strong as they are. And she’s certain she’ll be a fancy journalist one day.
Like all children, though, Russell and Elaine have an uncanny ability to grow up and forget their dreams. But when Russell returns from fighting in Vietnam in 1969 to discover Bill’s ultimate betrayal of his mother’s trust, he’s finished running. Problem is, if Russell stops running, then all he has left is rage, and Elaine is stuck carrying the burden of it all.
Running Bull is Blair’s second novel in a trilogy and family saga spanning four generations of this South Texas family. Although the books form a trilogy, they can be read in any order and function as stand-alone stories. Running Bull will capture fans of Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, and The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.
