Born and raised in South Texas, I often heard the words "No, a girl can't do that." My parents, teachers, neighbors, and especially my religious leaders expected me to choose a life serving God's more favored children, the boys. I purposely use the term "boys" because real men don't have the audacity to claim they are made in God's image.
Anyway, I wish I could name a teacher from my hometown who inspired me, but none did. One teacher called me dumb. I had a genius level IQ and earned an engineering degree and juris doctorate. Another teacher said I couldn't write. I currently earn a comfortable living exclusively through my writing. Still others noticed the telltale signs of abuse, but none reported it.
I share all of this as a warning. If you are looking for a feel good story where the good pious man saves the damsel in distress, please don't buy my books, because I will have a very disappointed reader on my hands.
But if you are interested in unforgiving, action-packed tales with biting criticisms of the world as it is and pleas for a world as it should be, you've come to the right place.
I am grateful for the support and feedback that my beta readers, friends and family have given. This story started off as a vague swirling idea several years ago, but with their encouragement, I have brought some quirky characters to life, so much so that Forbidden Woman took a drastic turn to the visionary when I realized how Lucille would respond to her moment of truth. Running Bull has gone through a similar transformation.
